Lotta good memories here. This was the first theater I went to after moving to Los Angeles. It was Your Friends and Neighbors.
One of my favorite theaters in LA. After seeing Nothing Personal there, all alone, I stayed in my chair crying stupidly uncontrollably long after the credits rolled. When I finally headed up the aisle to leave, the only remaining people in the theater were two octogenarian French women discussing the film.
I paused next to their canes and said “Wasn’t that the most beautiful film you’ve ever seen?” They were delighted that I spoke French, so they invited me to coffee, and thus I spent an afternoon discussing movies, art, and France with a couple of elegant French painters. Thanks, Sunset 5, for one of my most fortunate cinematic experiences. This city and its darkened theaters let you bring the world in a little closer, if you let it.
